It's the eve of the big race

.... and I can't wait. Race fans have been waiting a long time for this and there were days when it seemed like it would never get here. But now the wait is almost over - just a little more than 24 hours to go! It's going to be a great day. Plus I think there's a big horse race too or something.

Saturday is going to be great but there's also a lot to look forward to tonight. The 'Zards return to what will surely be a raucous Verizon Center to take on LeBron James and his crap team in Game 6 of their first round series. I hate the way that any time LeBron takes it to the rim, it automatically results in him getting to the free throw line. Kudos to Deshawn Stevenson and the Wizards for sticking up to him. From now on, any time I do something well at work I am going to run my hand over my face a la DeShawn. There's something for you all to look forward to. Go 'Zards!

The plays I posted in the blog yesterday did not do well but luckily I didn't manage to get my bets off in time. I got shut out at the window by the stupid writer. I was really pissed off about it, too. So I come running up to his window breathlessly after both games had started and yelled at him the names of the teams I wanted to bet on. There was no time for me to look up the betting numbers. I mean I had to sleep in, get there whenever I felt like it because I wasn't working, and talk to my degenerate friends about their stupid parlays. You tell me when I would've had the time to look up at the board or grab a sheet! It just wasn't going to happen. Besides the writer should really know them all by heart.... So he miraculously gets my bets off for me and hands me the tickets. But he didn't list pitchers!! How could he not list pitchers? I was at the same sportsbook at a window next to his no more than 2 weeks ago and I listed pitchers then! How could this kid not know that I wanted my pitchers listed today! So I tell him to void both bets and by the time he manages to void them and re-write the tickets the way I wanted them all along - betting is off for both games! Well, I did what any reasonable person would do and yelled at this dipshit until I was hoarse and asked to see his manager. The manager gave me a free buffet comp ( which I obviously deserved for being late, stupid, lazy, and rude and in spite of the fact that I bring nothing positive to the sportsbook ) and I was on my way. So to recap: I got there late, came up unprepared, was rude and completely unreasonable, and ended up saving money anyway.... So they comped me. I'm still mad about the whole situation, though. The customer is always right.... right?

Oh, I should mention that I made a late bet but didn't post it in the blog. I took the A's straight up and I parlayed them with the over, as well. No big deal.... I really did bet it.... just didn't post it. Prove that I didn't, Chris. You know you can't!

Here's what I'm playing on Friday (assuming these dumb ticket writers know every single betting number by heart and remember exactly how each customer wants his/her bet written):

Reds (Silver Bullet Special)

Rays

Hawks

That Rays play is on the Hoffman-Murray Connection card for Friday. We seem to have agreed upon that as a name, at least until we are able to sign Jeff and can finally form - The Sherman Group. I already ordered us all t-shirts we can wear when gambling and a disguise for Jeff so that all the people at the sportsbook don't recognize his presence and panic. I hear that sometimes when Jeff goes to a book they will literally turn off the lights and hide behind their windows in hopes that he will figure they are closed and go place his bet(s) somewhere else. He told me that story himself so it has to be true. The guy is good.

Trivia Question for Friday - Lawrence Taylor was the 2nd overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, despite many scouts calling him the best college linebacker they had ever seen. Who was the 1st pick in that draft?

** Wednesday/Thursday's Answer - The Purple People Eaters were Defensive Ends Carl Eller and Jim "Wrong Way Run" Marshall and Defensive Tackles Alan Page and Gary Larsen. I had to look up Larsen.

Don't forget there's a Nationwide Race tonight, don't pout about me not mentioning Jorgen in the blog, and definitely don't forget to....

Enjoy the game.
